Reimagining spaces for youth at Family House
For over 30 years, Family House — Ulster County’s only shelter for teens — has been a place of safety and support. Through the Love In Action Project, we’re transforming these spaces into environments that foster healing, dignity, and belonging.
Why This Matters
The spaces we live in shape how we feel, how we think, and how we move through the world.
For teens experiencing homelessness or instability, environment becomes even more important. A room can either reinforce stress and uncertainty — or offer a sense of calm, safety, and possibility.
Family House has been a place of refuge for over three decades. While the care has always been strong, the physical environment has not been updated in over 30 years.
This project is about changing that.
Through thoughtful design, we’re creating spaces that support emotional well-being, encourage self-expression, and remind every young person who enters:
You are seen. You are supported. You belong.
“Every young person who comes through our doors deserves more than shelter — they deserve spaces that help them heal, grow, and feel genuinely supported.”
Robert Molina, Director of Family HouseThrough your support….as a director for __ years I’ve seen how vital it is to a child’s health….
“Every child deserves a space that reflects their worth, supports their healing, and reminds them they matter.”
Brooke Lane, brookelane Design StudioLove In Action is about creating spaces that remind every young person they are seen, supported, and valued.
At Family House, incredible care is given to the youth who pass through its doors—but the physical space has not been updated in over 30 years. With time, the wear has become visible. This project is about transforming these environments into ones that feel safe, uplifting, and filled with dignity.
Through thoughtful design, we have the opportunity to create spaces that support healing, inspire hope, and reflect the level of care these children truly deserve.
I’m honored to contribute my time to this initiative and hopeful we can come together to bring these spaces to life.
